Text Box: Optimax launched its latest enhancement at the Vision 2004 Estate in September. Optimax now captures and stores directly from your equipment such as Slit Lamp or Fundus camera. The procedure is quite elementary, call up the patient in your Optimax software, focus and click, the image is stored on the patients record card. Take as many images as you like, then delete the unsuitable ones. When the patient returns you can recall all images to compare any pathogenic changes. Referral to an Ophthalmologist allows you to e-mail the images directly.
Included in the Imaging module is the new Clinical module which replaces the previous patient record card. All clinical details may now be captured directly by the examining optometrist which are automatically used for billing and lens selection. You do not have to recapture the Rx for the invoice for those schemes requiring it.
Previously such software was a stand alone feature not integrated into the patients other details and was extremely expensive. The most popular imaging software started in the vicinity of R20,000. The Optimax module comes at a fee of R2,600 which includes a video card and adaptor card. Your PC needs to be using Windows XP Home or Professional as the Operating System and requires a USB2 port. But please speak to one of our consultants for precise details.
On the optical equipment side, please speak to Genop about their Slit Lamp with built in camera or about an upgrade of your current equipment.
The launch of this new, exciting enhancement created a tremendous amount of interest at our stand at Vision 2004. The reaction from a lot of our existing clients varied from :
“ just what I have been waiting for”
				to
“ great and the images are so perfect”
				to
			“send me the update asap”

Another innovation from Optimax.

Text Box: Computer Viruses
Text Box: Computer viruses are the scourge of the modern world. Daily we receive calls from users infected with some virus. The question always asked is “ where did I get it from ?” Hopefully the following may shed some light on this destructive program written by some warped person purely to inflict harm and discomfort to others.
What is a computer virus
A computer virus is an executable file written to replicate itself and avoid detection. A virus may try to avoid detection by disguising itself as an legitimate program. We have all seen the e-mails - “ Urgent—read me” Viruses are frequently rewritten so that they will not be detected. Hence your Anti-Virus software may not always be able to detect the latest virus released onto society
